Should cracked concrete be repaired or replaced?

Short answer: Most cracked concrete can be repaired. Replacement is usually only needed when the slab has lost structural integrity, has widespread crumbling, or has settled so unevenly that lifting is not practical.

Hairline cracks and most working cracks are sealed to keep water and soil out, which prevents the crack from widening and prevents further sub-slab erosion.

Sunken sections with otherwise sound concrete are usually lifted rather than replaced.

Replacement makes sense when concrete is shattered into many pieces, when reinforcement has failed, or when a slab has been undermined to the point that lifting will not hold.
